not just Brooks.
So the general consensus is that Brooks is best for saddle comfort. Because it's leather and moulds to your bum shape. So are we to assume that any leather saddle will do the same. I have recently come into possession of a couple of older little used suede saddles [brushed leather]. So then I assume that these will wear in and take the shape of my aching bum. Please let me know if I am wrong? Or is there something magical about a Brooks?
If I am right what do I treat them with to ensure that they bed in?

Your reasoning sounds pretty good to me, however:
In my opinion the comfort of a brooks saddle is partly due to its smoothness. Being smooth allows your shorts to rub about a bit on the saddle rather than your bum rubbing on the inside of your shorts. I would suspect that a brushed leather saddle might reduce this effect.0 -
I always thought that a Brooks was best because it could "breathe"
So allowed air to circulate in your nether regions.
This breathability can be damaged if one oils the saddle and doesn't use Proofide or Lanolin .

I think I'm right in saying that the Brooks saddles "mould" to your shape over time because they are just a thick piece of leather stretched over the saddles rails. Modern saddles have a plastic shell under the leather or suede covering which does not change shape (or at least shouldn't).
Never ridden one, but I understand Brooks saddles to be uncomfortable for upto 6 months until they mould into your shape...........at which point they are the most comfortable saddle on earth...........but you have to treat them with hide cream etc to keep them supple until they mould. All too much faff for me I'm afraid.0 -
Its the general consensus if you have a beard.0

Its nice when you see a sterotype in real life!
Lovely shiny saddle though, must have taken a few miles of arse polishing to get that sheen.0 -

Yes it's done about 24,000 (you can see it's nicely worn in by the @rse dimples ), might look a bit shiney as I'd just given it the monthly Proofide (tiny, tiny amount rubbed well in) and buff up - I reckon that it will last longer than I will :roll:Colin N.
