What's that bike?

While sat waiting in a shop recently I picked up the June issue of Esquire where they featured a beautiful bike that I can't remember the make of.
It had a white frame (could be anything I know) but the special thing about it was that it did not have a chain but a square piece of solid metal connecting the crank to the rear wheel. The rear hub also looked quite strange and I couldn't tell whether it was a single speed or it had some type of gearing within the hub. I'd never seen anything like it before.
I think it was made in Scandinavia somewhere and was only available on a website.
Does anybody have any idea what it was?
