Spongey Disc Brake question

My LBS fitted some new Deore disc brakes onto my bike at the weekend and because they shortened the rear cable had to bleed the brake. When testing it before I left the shop, they said the rear brake felt a little spongey and gave me a cable tie to keep the brake locked on overnight to let the air out. I did this, but being new to hydraulic disc brakes, how do I know if this is now sorted and ok?

is it still spongey? if yes take it back and ask they to finish sorting it.

I know this may sound stupid, but what does spongey feel like? I don't know :?

Or if easier to explain, how should it feel when right?

I would say immediately they don't, but after I pull rear brake lever once or twice when bike standing still they do, if that makes sense?

still got air in them. go back to the shop and get them to rebleed them.

Thanks, I feared as much. How annoying.....is this common when first setting them up? I assume they should both feel firm and bite as soon as they touch pads.

if the shop does the job right then it is not common.

Earliest I can get to LBS is next week, will it do any harm if I ride with them as they are over weekend?
