bike upgrade

after buying a low end mountain bike (shogun grind) i,ve really caught the buzz and am looking to upgrade my bike. i have between £300 and £400 to spend but just cant make my mind up. i have looked at the lower end treks ie 4300 disc and the mongoose tyax elite. i am open to any suggestions.

One of the magazines recently did a full-suss vs. hardtail for less than £500 roundup, and rated the Decathlon Rockrider 6.3 at just £300 as a great bike!
