I don't get it. Ok they want to make a point that they are fed up with all the doping scandals, but hey, we all are, that dosen't mean I'm going to stop watching cycling. I think they are just being petty and childish. For all the problems with cycling at the moment, it's still one of the most popular events if not the most popular sporting event ever, you only need to look how many people turn out to watch it to see that.
To deny the good people of Germany the chance to watch the tour is just silly, and I think it's a no win situation - the public can't watch it and the channels are losing out on viewers though I bet they are still showing the adverts that would normally be in the cycling0 -
They pay good money for the rights to show the Tour. They recoup this money (and some) by selling advertising based around the event. Advertising will fall away if the event gets bogged down with doping issues.
It's the only recourse they have with the Tour organisers and a pretty powerful bargaining chip when buying up the rights next time round. ASO's income mainly from TV and sponsorship, so they are bothered.0 -
