Just got one. Very nice it is too.
But, why has it got threaded inserts (like bottle cage mounts) on the underside of the down tube :?:

To take a crud-catcher type mudguard or an extra bottle cage for touring?
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

They're for a third bottle cage. Specialized are probably the only Big manufacturer that realise the third set is something many touring cyclists want. They do them on the Tricross, Sirrus and most of their higher end hardtail mtbs.
    More problems but still living....

    Thanks.
That was my guess. Would be a helluva stretch on the move

I think it may be for putting your fuel bottle in - hopefully you won't need that on the move! though quite why my rock hopper has them is a mystery to me!

My Thorn's got a third bottle cage, but it only takes a 500ml bottle. It's very handy when going long distances though. One problem with it is that the front wheel throws crud all over the bottle, including the nipple. I made a cover from a piece of 1.5" inner tube and a cable-tie, to hold one end of the tube closed, and stretched it over the top of the bottle.

Got mudguards. I'm sure I've got flaps somewhere, but I've never gotten round to fitting them.
