Race Thread: Stage 10, Tallard - Marseille (spoilers)
The top riders will take a rest, the sprinters will be to tired... does this mean we'll see a big break away take the win? With two third cat climbs near the end you would think so.
Remember, this time last year we still hadn't heard of Pierro!!!
Climbs:
Km 57: Côte de Châteauneuf-Val-Saint Donat: 3.3 km climb to 3.1 % / 4th Cat.
Km 93: Côte de Villedieu: 1.1 km climb @ 5.2 % grade / 4th Cat.
Km 201.5: Côte des Bastides: 7.5 km climb @ 2.9 % grade / 3rd Cat.
Km 219.5: Col de la Gineste: 7.5 km climb @ 3.2 % grade / 3rd Cat.
Sprints:
Km 82.5: Oraison
Km 154.5: Saint-Maximin-La-Sainte-Baume

Hooray, first to reply to this thread!!!
It will be a bit of a rest day for the favourites today, small group to get away in the smaller hills... Gilbert to win a sprint (if he is still in the race!)0 -
Contador for me, but I've been more impressed by Soler, the Colombian fella that won yesterday. He did well on all the Alpine stages, I think finishing 5th in one, 1st in another and at least having a dig in the stage where he lost time. He also rides for Barloworld, who I always like to see doing well.
BTW - I mean Contador for the poll, not the win today :P . I agree that Gilbert is a good bet for today's stage.0 -
For the most impressive I've went with Rasmussen for obvious reasons. He's attacked well and he's defended well so far! It'll be interesting to see how he fairs in the TT's and in the other mountains when more attacks come left right and center.
As for today's stage, I went with Vasseur though Axel Merckx would be an outside bet as well... Anyone got odds from the bookies on todays stage only?0 -
What about the man from Malta
the stage seems perfect for a try by Millar.

I get the feeling he was working too hard for Mayo yesterday to be a factor today.
Hope I am wrong though.0 -
I picked Contador as most impressive so far...............mainly because I don't know much about him...............I didn't really follow Paris-Nice this year. His acceleration yesterday was astonishing...............the motorbike riders must have been astounded at how quickly he jumped up to them. Looking forward to seeing more of him in the Pyrenees.
I think a big group will stay away today, and then break up towards the finish on the two cat 3 climbs - I've picked Voigt for PTP but in reality it could be anyone from about 70 riders that stands a chance. Depends on how tired their legs are, but Voigt finished yesterday fairly high up (59th) so I'll stick with him.0 -

I still haven't heard of Pierro - Unless that scary bloke in a clown outfit has taken up the challenge to be the next French winner :shock:___________________
Strava is not Zen.0 -
Would love Millar to try and get into a break as I expect the break to stay away to the finish today. The sprinters will all be worn out from the last few days so may not try to chase.
You could be right about him doing too much work for Mayo yesterday though.0 -
According to the beeb Valverde, Evans et al are actually racing - this is supposed to be a transition stage ffs!
Perhaps they're all thinking of Pierro [sic] last year!
Rule No.10 // It never gets easier, you just go faster0 -
First hour at 48.3 km/h
The break has been brought back in.0 -

I voted for Sastre as, although there are a few who have had more impressive rides, he has been most impressive overall and I reckon his gameplan will become apparent in the final week. I still reckon he'll be on top of the podium in Paris0
-
Rasmussen most impressive so far for reasons posted above.
Today's stage, I hope will be Voigt's day. I disagree with the consensus though, I think we'll see a bunch sprint in Marseille. Boonen's second stage victory of this year.
As for Paris, I'd love to see Rasmussen hang on but just can't see it. I can't see anyone stopping Valverde, esp in the Pyrenees.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Will it be treats with Pocket and Sweets? Is that where we should go?0 -
Vino is back at the medical car for the second time today with brown gooey stuff oozing down his knees. Nasty.
I hope Flecha takes it today. I wanna see the archer salute again.0 -
At this rate is Vino going to even make it to Paris?0
-
The lead groups lead is getting cut. I really hope they manage to stay away and put some good time into the peloton. The two third cat climbs coming up will maybe split them 11 riders up a little.0

Vino is the hardest man in cycling and will get to paris unless the doctor pulls him out. He's a very proud man.Bravo Vino0

Fantastic to hear Saul Raisin on Eurosport. He just said he's riding the US TT championships in Sept and hopes to ride a full season next year.0

This is fascinating stuff in the lead group of Voigt, Halgand, Vasseur, Cassar and Albasini. A real study in tactics, leadership, team work, bluffing, the lot. Brilliant to watch.0

Gutted Casar didn't win it. Nevermind. A well timed sprint by Vasseur.0

I feel I should apologise to poor old Patrice, my picking him for today's PTP obviously royally f****d up his chances of winning. Sorry0
