Has anyone cycled on Tiree?
I am mulling over which bike to take with me,
MTB
26" Tourer
or 700c Road
Taking the Tourers 1.5" tyres with me for the MTB is also an option.
Judging by the OS map on Multimap (woo hoo they are back) there isn't too many non road routes on tiree, but unlike the 20's 1inch series it doesn't tell me what the surface is like.
Whats the road surfaces like, and is there much off road to try?

As far as I understand, Tiree is like a billiard table so I guess take the MTB and you will be able to go anywhere.I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks0

It's the fail safe option, but just think how disappointed I will be if i discover that the roads are also billiard table smooth and I keep topping out in the big ring.
Ok so it woud lbe an excuse to go backDo Nellyphants count?

Your right, take both bikes just in case.I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks0

Take the one which allows you to get into the lowest position because the wind is a killer!0

Tiree's roads are flatter than the OS suggests. I suggest you take a road bike with drop bars so you can get out of the wind. You can go on every road on a bike in one day.
But if you want to get to remote beaches to explore or for a picnic then an MTB might be more fun but fat tyres will suck your power away on the roads.
Alternatively take a windsurfer and get some airtime.

Dear NWallace
PS. Just reread your initial post. All the roads are OK for road tyres. little frost and drainage is good so the tarmac is OK.

Cheers all for the info.
Others going will have MTB's with them so I think I'm going to take mine if it saves being miles ahead of them and then being overtaken as i walk to the beach!
Had a trip to Iona at the weekend, not much road but it is in excellent condition where it exists more sheltered than Tiree cos there is at least a big hill!Do Nellyphants count?
