Anyone from Scottish central belt.....
........who can recommend some nice routes for me and the missus?
I am getting back into MTB after a long absence, and the missus is brand new to it all. Preferably somewhere we can take the dog along too?
We are in Livingston, but travelling aint really an issue (within reason).
Basically just want to get back into the saddle, prior to the harder, more extreme stuff.

Don't know where to start. How about trails on your doorstep - at Pentlands Hills (nice and easy)? Or slightly further away at the wind farm in the Kingshill Plantation between Allanton and Forth? Further south there are easy paths around West Linton and at Peebles, Innerleithen and Selkirk (forestry trails outwith MTB centres). Along the M8 there's the Carron Valley mini-centre with some basic ups and downs at the top of the Campsies (Fintry). North of that but still only an hour away is the bike playground better known as The Trossachs -- Loch Ard and Achray forests have networks of various grade paths starting from Aberfoyle or Callander. In Ayrshire, there is Europe's biggest forest park, Galloway Forest Park with a vast collection of double and single track routes and custom-made MTB paths round various lochs. (Clatteringshaws, Doon, Trool etc)You couldn't be more centrally-placed for mountain biking than living in Livingston. All details on the web somewhere or in Harry Henniker's mountain biking book.0

Cheers mate - great stuff0 -
If your around Glasgow at all, there's the Gleniffer Braes country park. Around barhead/paisley area.
Arran is also worth the journey for a day trip. Some good trails on the southern half of the island.0 -
