Recently I heard the brilliant Bob Dyland song 'Hurricane' and it was intriguing to look up
what had become of the characters mentioned
e,g.
Alfred Bello had a partner and he had a rap for the cops.
Him and Arthur Dexter Bradley were just out prowlin around
He said, I saw two men runnin out, they looked like middleweights
They jumped into a white car with out-of-state plates.
And Mss Patty Valentine just nodded her head.
Cop said, wait a minute, boys, this ones not dead

It may not be the most interesting fact, but it's the one that finally sold the internet to me and made me buy a computer to go on-line.

The Earth has 2 moons! The second one's called Cruithne after an Irish King.

At the time I only got 3 hits. This was one of them:

Surely the Earth doesn't have two moons?

Americans, some considerable time ago, considered making German their national language. That really would have changed history.

At an old job during quiet moments we used to have "Internet Challenges" whereby a random question was asked, often involving how someone famous died. The winner was the person who got the answer first.

I won quite a lot, which I would be proud of, but as well as being a winner it also kinda made me a bit of a loser too.

Baseball was invented in Yorkshire. There are still old leagues that play there. America has invented an alternative history/mythology to disguise this fact.

I believe the one we had most trouble with was finding out how old Moira Stewart is. I forget if we found the answer or not but apparently she keeps it very secret.

Cyclists live, on average, ten years longer than the national average.
That probably doesn't apply to couriers in London!

I flatly refuse to believe the Paris Hilton one without evidence! Evidence for the other 2 would be nice too.

This is not true, though often cited. See http://www.snopes.com/language/apocryph/german.asp for the facts.

The Supermarine Spiteful (1945) with a top speed of 494 mph in level flight - was the fastest piston-engined fighter aeroplane to fly before the end of WW2 (It never saw action tho'.) It was faster by 1 mph than the fastest British jet fighter to see action in WW2 - the Gloster Meteor Mk3.

The City of Truro 4-4-0 steam locomotive was unlikely to have reached 100mph in 1904 despite this being treated as fact by many for over one hundred years.

The Americans didn't win WW2 on their own. (I knew that already :D )

My personal favourite (in a similar vein) is that the first character from Friends to appear on a film was Maurice - who was the monkey in Outbreak
