Race Thread: Stage 9, Val d'Isere - Briancon (spoilers)
Big stage today, two huge mountain passes with a long downhill into the finish. As the poll asks, will a big name keep away after the final climb 39kms from the finish or is it to far out and will the downhill bring the big names back together?

I can't see one of the GC big guns staying away, but someone a way down the GC probably will. Maybe Savoldelli???0
-
I reckon a break with the winner from way down on GC but after KoM points. I can't see the big guns contesting today. Probably see Sylvain Chavanel and David de la Fuente in there I reckon.
...and I'm hoping ddlf will give me un autre etape du tour!

I reckon it'll be an uphill sprint (final couple of km rises by 100m) from a group of GC contenders..............Moreau, Vino, Klodi, Evans, Schleck, Sastre, Rasmussen et al....................but I think Valverde will pip 'em all in the sprint. Showed his form in a similar move at the end of stage 8.0

Wegelius will get in a break troday I reckon.
I am still hopeful a Brit will win a stage.0 -
I'll be getting out of work a little earlier today with the hope to get home in time to catch the final big climb before the decent down to the finish!0
-
I think Moreau fancies today
Sending off a team mate to help him later.
But I have been known to be wrong before

I see Popvych has gone off on a break. He is 7 minutes down on Rasmussen, does this mean he isn't in any way a contender for the GC?0

Not necessarily. Look at Perreiro and ahem Landis last year.
The peloton won't let him get too far ahead. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -
online coverage is useless it is continually buffering. anyone got any other links, i,m using the nos one at the moment"You can plan for the life you're supposed to have, but when you try to make plans, God is known to laugh"

Wow, looks like an amazing stage, can't wait to watch the highlights.
Just got an 8 hour shift to get through first...."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

good lads, closing them down, reeling them all back in...0

Thanks, got it working from the Eurosport home page. What are you guys using for a video feed? NOS doesn't work for me today.

Near the top of the telegraph.. Millar leading the way in the main peloton with them boys still 3 minutes up the road. Looks exciting. Shall be heading home shortly to try catch most of the final climb!0

sorry mate , glad you got it work.
I was busy watching the race
I'm watching from home on Eurosport ( the only benefit to be had from recovering from operations)

Anyone know what time it should finish? I'll get home around 16:30, not sure if I should keep track of it online and try and catch the finish at home or ignore it all and wait for the highlights.0

Impressed to see Nicolas Sarkozy in the Director's car.
Couldn't imagine our political leaders getting so involved in any races over here.0 -
15:48 CEST
Evans hits the front and drives it!
Can this be true?0 -
only briefly...
he looked up, saw there was no wheel in front, and fell back.
normal service now resumed.0 -
WTF...
Evans doing something, albeit following someone else, but its a start... his first 'offensive' move of the tdf.0 -
Aye carumba!! Looking forward to the highlights tonight.

This is getting very difficult. I'm supposed to be working, but I have the live Eurosport video feed from my Sky Box on my phone. I've just come back from an extended toilet break, but may need to disappear again.
It would be good to have the Barloworld guy get the stage.0 -
From cyclingnews.com:
16:36 CEST 149km/10.5km to go
Astarloza is under pressure in this group, as you might expect. He was away for much of the stage, after all.
Kirchen is impressive. He's filled the shoes of Michael Rogers very well
Ridgerider will be happy!
