Mudguard quandry.....

Hello all,
a few weeks ago, or months, I bought a mint second hand Carrera Subway one for commuting to and from work.
When I bought it, he offered me some full cover mudguards for a tenner, so I took them.
The front ones bolt on where the reflector is, and then you have the 2 struts either side that attach to the mounting points near the base of the forks - I hope that makes sense.
Anyway, we fitted just the front this evening, and no matter how garishly I bend the metal struts out I don't seem to be able to get enough reliable/consistent clearance so the tyres don't rub
So.... do I forget about them, bin them, and look for something else, and if so, what recommendations do people have?
I know I can go for clip ons for front and rear, but is there a proper full mudguard solution that will work for this bike?
And if not, what clipons would people suggest??
Many thanks
Daniel B

If they're the halfords ones then I'd forget it. It took me a couple of hours to fit them on my wife's Subway, then they were a complete pain. So I took them off again.
SKS full-length mudgaurds are the best for coverage IMO, though they are also difficult to fit.__________________________________________________________

Just to second Mister Paul's advice, I found halfords/dirt monkey guards didnt fit over the 1.6" tyres that my subway 8 came fitted with as standard, so I fitted SKS P55's instead. The current subway range come with guards fitted - might be worth asking in your local halfords what kind they use and if you can buy some.0

I'm afraid you need to ask why the mudguards weren't fitted by the seller...they didn't fit. Get SKS p55's or P65's.0

Do you reckon these will fit the bill then?
In black of course:

They should do nicely, and a good price too0

Well they arrived this morning at work, hows that for service?
Look fine, but do look very wide, but better too wide that too narrow I guess, and at least that should mean lots of clearance for the tyre underneath.
Looks a lot better in black than the silver they show them IMHO.
Will try and fit them tiehr tomorrow night or at the weekend,
thanks for the comments/suggestions,
Cheers

Keep the mudgaurds, I had a similar problem on a similar bike (Scott SUB 30) and this is how I solved it. To prevent them rubbing the tyre I used a heavy duty cable tie (plastic things found in most hardware stores) and thread it through the eyelet above the brakes and then through the guards, that way I was able to lift the guard above the tyre before pulling the cable tight.
I also cut the metal wires to size so they would attach to the forks without any bending, but be careful, if you cut too much...! They are easy to cut with a basic hacksaw.
Hope that helps0 -
A massive thankyou to eberyone who replied to my thread, and especially those who said to buy SKS mudguards!
I fitted the front one today, and it was amazingly easy - does anyone cut the poles down, or just stick the rubber hoods over them, they are only about an inch higher, and I don't see the point in messing around with a hacksaw?
I opted for the 60mm ones, and though they are a little wide, it means I have acres of clearance.
Difference in cost to the Halfords one I got with the bike, is chalk and cheese, just worlds apart, and for the price these were, an absolute no brainer - I'm well chuffed!
Can't fit the back one yet, as need a big spanner, and all my tools are currently in storage, so arranging the loan of some for tomorrow, and then, with the wind in the right direction, should be able to commute in for the first time on Tuesday.
Many thanks
