gears

I've just taken my new epic in for a service because the gears weren't quite right. I've now got the bike back and my lbs advised me that either it would rub in top (front) top (back) or rub in middle (front) bottom (back) there was no way to set it up with no rub and that this was normal for nine speed bikes.
I was wondering if anyone else experiences this.

Some combinations do tend to do this depending on chainline, and brand of components.0

sonic, thanks.
Is that because of cross branding?
I have lx front mech, and x9 rear. the chain is sram too but the cassette is shimano.0 -
SRAM chains are oh so very slightly wider than shimano, and as above it can depend on chainline and distance from the rear hub to the BB. Do check that there isn't a protruding pin on the chain somewhere, and that the front mech is perfectly angled, the right height, adjusted properly and the cage isn't bent.0
