Which £250(ish) bike

Im looking to buy a bike, around the £250 ish mark (£300 is the absolute max).

So far im looking at :-

Mongoose Tyax Comp Disc Bike 2007 - £250
GT Avalanche 3.0 Bike 2007 - £260
GT Avalanche 3.0 Disc Bike 2007 - £299

What do people think of these?
Any other recomendations?

Is it worth paying a little extra and going for disk brakes over V brakes?

Ill prob start with road riding/riding in the local parks etc and then do some of the Cannock chase trails, but the bike is more for fun and exercise than anything too serious.

You can get a 2007 Mongoose Tyax Elite for £250 including free delivery if you are quick. A fantastic bike at full price let alone £30 off.

I've just splashed out on one!

Go and try the bike first, don't just buy online because its the cheapest. You may end up with the wrong size, or completely hate the riding position.

dont get an avalanche. go to halfords. they have their own range of gt's called agressors. the gt agressor xc3 is of a much better quality compared to the avalanche xc3 and is the same price. i am the proud owner of one, and it is a really good bike.

i think theyve got the price wrong on this page tho. its 300

There isn't that much in the Avalanche 3.0 and the Aggressor XC3, and the Avalanche has a newer frame (the Aggressor uses last years avalanche frame). Both have the same gearing, brakes, and similar quality fork.

I used to have a Giant rincon. I found it to be quite a good bike and worth £250. i took it anywhere and everywhere and it never broke. Before that i had a carrera kraken which was also good but the forks were a little on the stiff side. Hope this helps.
