I have a 1999/2000 snata cruz chameleon with no disc mount fo the rear brake. I remember years ago you could get adapters are they still available ?

A2Z make adaptors.
but i would give Stif a call and have a chat."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

thanks for the quick response. As a note i run maguras so stopping is pretty at the moment, i wouldnt want to down grade in brake performance.
Thanks

So how about brakes people ?Show me your green bits i might buy them !0

well lets just say this. any brake you fit will not be as good on your frame with a converter as it would be on a Disc brake ready frame.
personally i would stick with the maggies."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Hi Matty,
I've used the A2Z adapter without any problems however I assume your Chameleon has horizontal drop-outs in which case it is not suitable anyway.
What is specifically designed for your situation is this http://www.raleigh.co.uk/pandadetails.aspx?ID=429 however. It is actually better in some ways than a frame mount in that it mounts to the axle and so is always correctly aligned with the rotor. You need a cup and cone (Shimano type) hub though because it takes the place of the axle spacer IIRC.
Other option is to leave the HS33 on the rear and stick a disc brake on the front. Not so daft considering the balance of braking forces."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -
Is that a common setup running the HS33 on the rear while having disc on the front ? I have shimano XT hubs what do you mean by axle spacer ?
The item you provided a link for, surely i would only need to use the disc side anyway ?
thanks

Not sure I understand your points fully but here goes....
HS33/Disc setup isn't common because most bikes now have disc mounts but you see it occasionally on older bikes. Some trials riders seem to use it as well.
XT hubs are perfect. I'm not saying it definately replaces the axle spacer, the instructions will explain what to do, but for info, if you look at the left hand side of your axle, you'll see a plain tube between the cone and the locknut. That's what I mean.
Erm, the item in the link, yes it mounts on the disc side. Both items shown do, one mounts the caliper and the other holds the axle in the drop-out.
Hope this helps."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -
So i assume you remove the tab ? that is currently bolted within the dropout (see link)
Ebay Auction LInk
Is that the tab or is that referring to the hub ?
Also going by that link for the adapter its look as though the axle is locked into position.
the adapter would mount like the letter C (to the external side) & the other plate would mount as a letter n (internal side) ?
Thanks

The A2Z looks alot more adjustable & would help with keeping the wheel aligned. I cant any reason not to purchase it. Maybe a little more fiderly when removing the wheel.Show me your green bits i might buy them !0

Well, I assume you mean this one http://www.woollyhatshop.com/view_product.php?id=731
If so, the only reason I wouldn't get it is the bit where it says "It will only work with vertical dropouts"."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -
hmm the hs33 and disk on the front is a very popular on a trials bike and works
you'll struggle to find more out right power than a hs33 they are amazing.
you'll get more modualtion and such.
if it was me and the hs33 had done me prowed maye just get a new leaver some good trials pad and the power would be just untrue.
quote:

i thought that was the case with the hs33 / disc i only read it on here the other day. I cant see how the A2Z adapter wouldnt be co0mpatible with horizontal dropouts, unless it effects the the actual adatper itself. Maybe a horizontal pressure it place on it ?Show me your green bits i might buy them !0

Its the fact that there is a vertical dropout in the adapter. So you woun't be able to get the wheel in once you have fastened the adapter in place."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0

thats understandable, the raliegh item looks like it would cause a problem. Besides i need to decide what brakes to buy first ?Show me your green bits i might buy them !0

of cause the other option is to get a quote from someone like Argosracing for adding an disc mount and then re heat treating as required and a repaint.
or just get a new frame/bike is you really want disc at both ends."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yes that is an option although i dont need a new frame or a paint job. The adapter could be made to fit (A2Z). I will get round it.Show me your green bits i might buy them !0
