HI...new to the forum so apologies if this is covered elsewhere.

Had my bike nicked (an old Sirrus Elite that I loved) and the insurers are being pretty decent so I'm looking to upgrade a bit.

I'm looking at the Sirrus Pro 07 at £850.00. Looks a great bit of kit to me but they've got a new 08 Pro coming out in a few weeks at £1250.00. That's a heck of a jump. They don't seem to be producing anything at my price range.

The 08 range seems to jump from an Elite at £600ish to the Pro at £1250.00. Seems daft that they've not gone for anything in the middle.

Does anyone know if they will be producing a more mid-range £8 - 900.00 hybrid and it would be worth my while waiting a few weeks or should I just go for the one I've seen?

Or...are there any other ranges I should look at? I'll use it for road commuting and a bit of railway/canal path cycling but nothing too 'off-road'.

The key though is that it can support a baby-seat as I like to put my 18 month old on the back (a co-pilot on a blackburn pannier rack) for gentle family rides. Oh, and I'm a hefty 17 stone ( I love my cycling but I love my beer and food more!) so it has to be sturdy enough for me and my son!

Thanks. Any opinions gratefully received!

The 08 model looks like a big price hike as you say. I've had a Pro 07 for a month now mainly for fast commuting and your quote " a lovely bit of kit" is dead right. Its a brilliant bike - for a hybrid it feels tight, but the carbon just smooths it out a little.

    Thanks for your comment.

I ended up getting the Pro 07 on Saturday morning and I love it. I'm going to change the pedals but that's my only tiny criticism.

And what's more...it looks great too.

Excellent - I'd agree that the pedals aren't the best but haven't look at others yet. Have you got any in mind?

I'm going to go for the ones that are SPD on one side and 'normal' on the other.

I won't use SPDs when I've got the child seat on the bike, no matter how confident I am with them. Also, I like to be able to go to cycling in normal shoes, or even wearing work shoes for little mini-commutes in my suit.
