Hey all,
Just got a new GPS vista Cx and been attempting to set up routes on it. Anyway, have no probs with OSGB grid refs but I've come across references like this on some sites and mtb mags:
GR405132, GR435128 etc. What the hell do they refer to?
Cheers,
spqr

The two letters are the map reference. The first three numbers are the X coordinates, the last three the Y.
Have a look here:

I guessed it was some grid ref. But if you pay more attention to the OS grid there are no letters that actually start with GR. They all start with S, H, N, J, O or T.
I was looking at a route in the peaks so it should really start with S or N. Have a look at the site and you'll see what I mean:http://www.flattyresmtbroutes.com/GlossopCutgate.html
These are linked to streetmap but in some mtb mags they use the same GR letters.0 -
Maybe they are just making sure that the 6 digit number following is seen as a OS Grid Reference not a phone number or something stupid like that?0

Oh, GR means Grid Reference I think!0
