XC500 or Recon ?

my 05 Marxocchi MX comps are good forks but as a fair % of my cycling is on tarmac or fireroads, the lack of lockout is a pain. have considered getting either 1 of the above forks (at the right price). The solo air recon looks good and whils i couldnt use the 130mm setting (or is it set to 100mm only) normally (it would slacken the head angle too much), i could problably use i on downhills if its adjustable on the fly - or just keep it to 100mm if not.

Anyone advise on these 2 forks ? Apart from lock out will I see an improvement in performance over the mx comps ?

Both forks offer more adjustability, and have 32mm stanchions and are stiffer. I would look at the RS Revelation though - lighter than the above, and good prices at the minute.

Revelations getting a bit over the price range + in dual air setting come in at 115 or 130mm.Definately too tall for the bike. nice fork though !

Reba is a good pound lighter than the XC500, and half a pound lighter than the Recon. Also over a pound lighter than your MX Comp. Great fork for the money.
