Its really easy to put on it really is just a case of sloting on and tightening up the bolt.

taking them off take a little more effort but not much. just screw in the crank extractor into the crank arm in question. (fully in so you dont seer the threads) and tighten up the pin that will slowly force the arm out.

if in doubt read park tools.

All those are for square taper the only difference is the last one incorperates a handle for leverage (the others require a lever with a allen key head there is a name for this but alas i cannot for the life of me think what it is)

 got it today and as soon as i tryed it the pin was really stiff , i persisted thinking it was just resistance then it started rounding the bolt thing on the pin so gave up and unscrewed it only to find that the pin had been going into where the crank screw goes (bit that holds it on ) and has squashed the metal of the pin tool into the shape of the screw!!!!!!!,

    what went wrong??????

p.s anyone know of a motobike site with a similaR forum to this

sounds like you do not have Square taper cranks and you should have used the bigger end.

    pics of cranks.

Oh i see the extractor was pressing on the crank arm not the axel. you have the ISIS end on it Fit the smaller end so it only presses on the axel.

a new tool that wont destroy its self. or take it to a bike shop.

going to do a few of these? get a good tool. or just cut the arm off.

well the point of doing this was so i wouldnt have to buy a new crank arm , and could use parts on my old bike. might just buy a new crank arm and leave that one on, so is there a certain type of crank arm i need that will fit, also if i were to buy a new tool what do i call it (avoid making same mistake)

if you are getting a new arm get one that is the same make and model as the other one as the Square can be angled differently.

tool one that has a end that does not rotate. might be an idea to get one like the park one in the picture i posted as by changing the end over it will work with ISIS and octalink as well as the square taper type. and as the end does not rotate it will not screw itself into the bb axel.

not sure what you mean when you say rotate, i was under the impression that i had to rotate the pin to make it push the arm away.

yes but where it presses on the bb axel it is not needed or desired.
