Lookin for a new chain, i have a specialized hardrock with current chain :Shimano HG-50, 1/2" x 3/32", (8 speed cassette). Just wondering what sort of money is worth spending as i ride xc mainly, mess about on a few small jumps etc. have managed to get a kink in current one and goin to cwmncarn in a few weeks and have been advised to get a new one.

Depending on how worn the cassette is you may need to get a new one of those as well.

I'd go for middle of the range SRAM myself. PC870 me thinks. If you are needing to get a new cassette then get the best Shimano one you can afford, make sure its 8-speed though.

Depends how long you are going for. There should be a bike shop around that will stock most spare parts like brake pads + cables if you need them. Take a spare mech hanger though as they can be hard to come by.

As for spares, rear mech hanger for each bike, lots of inner tubes, brake pads for each bike.

Good advice on the rear mech hanger.. I just found that one out myself!!

Top of Painswick beacon (Glos) yesterday when the chain snapped along with the hanger!! :x

Then it started raining and a thick mist closed in too.. would someone please confirm that it is in fact JULY...!!!!!!!!!

Will take a spare from now on..
