Can anyone recommend some decent knee/shin pads for a beginner? I am considering the Brand X Stuff from Chain Reaction, unless the money would be better spent elsewhere?

Any suggestions?

I use the race face DH ones. Really like them.

There was a review in one of the mags not long back about armour.. the Brand X stuff got some really good marks as I recall.

I'll see if I can dig the issue out and let you know...

    Personally I use 661 Racelite knee/shin protection and they haven't missed a beat. Around £35 I think..?

But as promised, I found the back issues so here goes.

March MBUK Wrecked & Rated knee / shin guards:

    Brand X Freeride Pad - 8/10 - £29.99 - www.chainreactioncycles.com - Quote "Well priced for soft scuff protection"

    Brand X Mk 2 Knee Pad - 10/10 - £24.99 - www.chainreactioncycles.com - Quote "Perfect pads for protecting both yourself & your wallet"

Raceface Rally FR Pad - 7/10 - £59.99 - www.silverfish-uk.com - Quote "Great secure protection but high price & poor finishing"

    661 Kyle Strait Knee Guard - 9/10 - £89 - www.mmasports.com - Quote "Not cheap but fantastic pedal-friendly knee protection"

    TSG Knee/Shin Guard - 9/10 - £44.99 - www.ison-distribution.com - Quote "Very protective, snug fitting & well vented articulated pads, but bulky"

TSG Timo Pritzel Pads - 8/10 - £44.99 - www.ison-distribution.com - Quote "Less sweaty than most, but security depends on accurate sizing"

    July MBUK Wrecked & Rated:

Fox Racing System Leg Armour - Single review "Big Value" award - £30 - www.foxeurope.com - Quote "Best fitting knee/shin combo out there".

So there you have it.. now all you need to do is decide & get spending!!

I use the brand -x knee/shin guards and the elbow pads.

They are fantastic..really comnfortable if not a tad bulky to look at.
I wear them all the time weather it be xc for 25 miles or banging downhill at afan.

I will say i am an 18 stone beefer and i went for the large in the knee/shinpads..i would have gone medium if i had known better as the straps are real long..but for the elbow pads i would go large every time unless you are below 12 stone and have small arms ..

big damn thumbs up for the brand -x

( my mate has the 661's he finds them uncomfortable)

I bought some 661 Tomcat knees not too long ago. Very comfy and big, nice safe feeling to them.
