I have come to the point where I am going to finish off the drivetrain on my build but I just need some help spec'ing it. If I were to get XTR shifters (looking at dual control) would I have to use them with XTR mechs and cables?? I already have some XT cables and I only wanted to get XT mechs, it's just that Merlin have last years XTR dual control shifters and brakes for the same price as CRC are selling the XT equivalent. Can I mix and match???

Cheers

Simon :D

I'd wait for 2008 XT dual control myself. It has more in common with the new XTR and it better in design than the 2006 XTR stuff. Make sure you get a Rapid Rise mech with your Dual Control shifters as well, although the specification (XT, LX, XTR, whatever) is irrelevent.

Cheers ddoogie. Yeah, I know to use a RR mech. Any idea when the 2008 XT gear is available?? No clue on the Shimano site.

Theres been lots of sites saying July so hopefully sometime at the end of this month. I cant wait to see the new hyrdo brakes, they look just like Magura louise only sexier.

Oooh, not as long as I thought then!

I am new to this mtb lark (5 months service so far) so I have not seen a whole product line released like this before. Does anyone know if the new kit will be sold everywhere at rrp to start with or can we see the good discounts we have come to expect from the likes of Merlin and CRC straight away?? Unfortunately, cost is a factor for me :(

    Cheers

Hmmm that is a good question, i think a small discount would be ok, but tbh this years xtr should have a good discount.

Most of the xtr xt stuff is totally interchangeable. The only bit that haddent used to be was the chainrings on the chainsets. I'm not sure if that is still the case or not. As for xtr shifters wirking on xt gears.. yeah they sure do.
