Brake Pad Replacement

Hi All.
I have a Mongoose Tyax Elite fitted with Radius mechanical discs(160 mm rotor). I had a problem with the brake noise so I followed the FAQ & cleaned with Muc Off, Cleaned the pad faces with wet & dry & put copper coat on the backs of the pads. The noise has now gone but the brakes dont seem as strong, I have adusted them to have a 2mm gap between the pads & discs.
I will keep trying just incase they need bedding in again.
Mean while can you tell me if I can change the pads for a better type & which will fit, Also is it worth me changing the calipers for a better type?
Thanks in advance
Dan

Hi.
I now have a bit of spare cash & thought I would change the brakes to hydraulic as I am not that impressed with them. I am looking at the XT's from wiggle as they have been recommended a few times on these forums. Before I buy will the power of these brakes be a significant change? Also I will need new shifters as they are built in, Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

You will need new 8spd shifters. The brakes will be better, more modulation and power, though XT is a bit overkill: I'd go for the cheaper and easier to fit Deore.0

Thanks supersonic, do you recommend any shifters? and do you know if they are compatable with Front Derailleur Shimano FD-C050 , Rear Derailleur Shimano RD-M340 Acera 8sp .
Thanks again.0 -
Alivio 8spd pods would be my suggestion, around 20 quid.0

Thanks Supersonic for your help,

I think thats the slightly older model, but still works very well. However if you look closely it comes with a left hand lever for the front brake... OK, you can buy the 'rear' too, which has the RH lever for the back break and swap the hoses over, but that defeats the point of the easy set up of this brake.
Have a look here:

OK thanks, Having problem with viewing evans site, But link worked. I have just one more question ( I Think). I know you said the XT would be over kill, Buy wiggle are doing a full set for £123, The same as the M535's. would it be viable to go for the overkill now or would that be pointless?
Sorry to pester.
Thanks alot for your help.

Can't deny that is a great price! Check that it comes with the correct rotors (you need the 6 bolt pattern). The Deore may be found cheaper at other places though.0

Right. I now have the funds to get this brakes, Before I do, Can anyone tell me if it would be ok to us the exixting rotors on my bike , best to get the full brake kit with the supplied rotors or shall I my seperate ones? If so which rotor would you recommend?
I will be buying from wiggle.
Thanks in advance.

Possibly. Though I don't know much about the radius disc brakes apart from they are pretty good budget models. The rotors could be thicker for instance.0

Thanks supersonic, I will probably buy the full set. I will be selling the old brakes on ebay do you know a fare price for them?
Cheers

Not a very well known brand, no more than 15 quid each really.0

Thank you, Thats fine its something I can put towards the bike.

The XT's are a worthy purchase. If you buy the full set you get rotars ( shimano do advise to use there own rotars only, but they would) and mounting adaptars, which your probably need. I bought the full set from wiggle £123. The rear hose may need cutting down as it is rarther long. There nice and easy to install and very powerfull.0
