Tyres???

I`m riding a stumpy FSR Comp running on Panaracer Fire XC Pro 2.1`s. I`m heading for the French alps in a couple of weeks - Chatel/Pre-la-Joux to ride mainly VTT trails but also some downhill in the bike park. Went last year ; it`s fantastic!! Problem. I can`t afford umpteen sets of tyres so would like one good set suitable for alps and usual riding in North Wales/LakeDistrict. Something fairly fast but still grippy. Any suggestions? :?
