help : travel baggage insurance

I was browsing a few websites looking for travel insurance incase my bike gets damaged in transit - most insurance companies i've seen only cover single items to a maximum value of £250.

Do any of you have any recommendations for other companies that insure up to £1000 - and don't give any hassle when claims are made?

Sports Direct do a package called Ventureguard.

Its cover at Gold level covers baggage and personal effects for £300 single item plus another £600 for sport equipment extensions see notes below:

BAGGAGE AND PERSONAL EFFECTS
Loss of or damage to your personal baggage provided you take proper care to safeguard your property at all times. There are limits for any one article and valuables, and children (under 16 years) are restricted to 50% of the adult limit. Ensure that expensive items (ie videos) are insured elsewhere. Does not include cover for Specialist Sports equipment - see equipment extension below.

SPORTS EQUIPMENT EXTENSIONS
Extends cover to include Specialist Sports Equipment that is not covered under Baggage and Personal Effects.

Whether they mean you could claim a maximum of £900 or only a maximium of £600 you would have to check that with them.

You could also try E&L Insurance. Cover for cycles valued up to £5,000

They also do a replacement hire if your bicycle is made unusable for more than 24 hours whilst you are on a cycling holiday by any of the main perils detailed in Section 1 and the loss or damage is covered by this policy, they will pay an additional sum as specified in the schedule. Payment will be in respect of the reasonable costs incurred in obtaining a comparable bicycle in order for you to have or complete your holiday, whilst the bicycle is being restored or replaced.
