Tool kits

I'm tired of needing tools I don't have and am looking for a good starter tool kit - I'd rather have a slightly smaller but pretty good quality set - essentially just enough to do basic maintenance and fitting of pretty simple parts...
What would you recommend - I've heard people talking about some good'uns on ebay - but am not entirely sure what's good...

I've always had a Topeak Alien.
Everything you need in a handy size package, spanners, allen keys and a chain tool.
All i carry is the Alien, Puncture kit, Tyre levers and a compressed air inflator.

But don't know of the quality. Any feedback would be helpful0 -
heh it was that one and this one http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360027273&N=LifeLine%20Professional%20Tool%20Kit that lead me to asking this question...
But no idea about quality...
I've not even heard of LifeLine0 -

that is not bad.
looks very like http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=7127 in content. which i have to supliment all my other tools that i have aquired over the years."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

aye seems to be about the same sort of contents - I assume the Park Tools one will contain much better quality tools though (well judging by the price anyway!)
Is quality *really* going to make much difference for a relative beginner like me?
Or is it just worth buying quality from the off..?
Anyone have experience with LifeLine stuff?0 -
Simon,
my thoughts on tools are as follows. If you make a living from your tools then they should be the best you can get.
if you use a tool often then it should be the best you can get.
if you use it once or twice a year, does it matter.
and finally if the tool breaks how screwed are you?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Wise advice I feel
(just didn't want to buy something now only to realise that it's not up to the task and having to buy an expensive too...)
cheers for your patience fella0 -
i would buy the lifeline kit and if something breaks replace it.
but i would also buy a good set of T handled allen key and tox keys. as these at the things that tend to F**k up most often."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I've got a load of decent quality allen & tox key stuff already fortunately0

sounds like you will be sorted then."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
