I know some people are put off touring in Scotland due to past experience with midges. If you are thinking of giving Scotland a go and are worried about midges check out the midge forcast, then you'll know which areas to avoid. Most of the time the problem is not as great as people expect, but yes it can be bad.

I`m told that Avon `Skin So Soft` is the answer to midges (don`t know which particular product - but I hear that the SAS use it  ).

Advice for kilted riders: top-tubes are cold.
  • The avon skin so soft tip is true, I know one or two folk who are regular hillwalkers who use it. I haven't given it a go yet, but am going to at the earliest oppo as I'm sick of getting midged in the summer.

Avon Skin So Soft dry oil/post showere skin moisturiser in the green bottle is the stuff to go for. It does work. I've used it on twoLEJOG rides nd the only places where I got bitten was where I'd not sprayed the stuff.

I don't know about the SAS but it is standard issue for the Royal Marries. It really does work.
