When im on my mountain bike with these i have to pull up much harder than i would like when im setting off from a set of lights and sometimes my feet come detached (not from my legs mind but from the pedals) what should i do? I've only had the pedals a few months so are probably on the loosest setting but i'm not completely comfortable tightening them too much as i'm recovering from a crash still.
Are there middle settings?
How much tighter does it get?
Whats the difference between the tightness is it in the connecting or disconnecting?

If you're pulling up much harder than you would like when setting off from traffic lights, I'd advise shifting down a few gears before you stop.0

Unless i'm mistaken, the allen key fitting bolt on the pedal does the tightening and it only tightens a little if you screw the bolt in a little bit. It is not all or nothing, the more you screw in the bolt, the tighter the mechanism gets. try half a turn and see it that is enough, if not another half turn etc etc etc. There are 3 types of people in the world, them that can count, and them that can\'t.0

Consider:
1. Check that your cleats are not worn and need replacing
2. Tighten the allen key bolt on the pedals (but don't over do it!!!)0 -

watch the little guage on both sides
tightening the cleats won't stop the 'float' in your heel just the force to remove your heelhttp://twitter.com/mgalex

You should be able to adjust the tension bolt to fix this, regardless of what gear you use. I've never had my SPDs unclip when I didn't want them to and I always pull away in 46x17 because that's the only gear I have.--
If I had a baby elephant signature, I\'d use that.0 -
what i could do is tighten the right one as this is the one i pull away with and leave the left one loose as its the one i always unclip when i stop.
I had an accident 6 weeks ago and i kind of hit a car whilst i was travelling at around 30mph and i got detached and went flying could this have damaged my cleats?BMC TM01 - FCN 0

There are two types of standard SPD cleat available. The silver ones are designed to release if you pull up sharply as well as if you twist your foot. The black ones only release by twisting. So you could solve this by changing cleats, without having to tighten up the release tension.0
