he is still standing high in GC after Stage 5 - and he can now climb too!

Any predictions for his overall GC in Paris?

Despite his confession that he is given up on being a GC rider I am not convinced- I can see a top 30 placing for him....
I hope he grabs a stage0 -
I wouldn't describe a top 30 finisher as someone with GC aspirations.
Having said that I think that he might give the GC a dig. I think he'll give it a go on Saturdays stage to Le-Grand-Bornand. (If he finishes in the front group that could well put him in yellow) Then reasses the tactics depending on how it goes.We\'ll kick against the darkness \'till it bleeds daylight0 -
I'd hardly say he can climb just yet. That group still had Cancellara and Zabel in it!
I'll wait until the first rest day before deciding on whether to salute him or not. :P0 -
It will be interesting to see him in the high mountains
His best climbing was, of course, in the 2003 Dauphine when he came 3rd
He was riding up there with Leipheimer etc on the mountainous stages
Of course that was one of the 3 times he admitted to EPO....
Interesting to see how he does now
I think he has a real chance of winning a TT stage but nowhere near the GC imho0 -

He'll make a much more interesting read than Paul Kimmage, or Lance for that matter. He's got the archetypal "British" humour that no one else "gets".0

If he really writes that he can look forward to a decent career as a journalist when he gives up. Its quite funny.0

Mark Cavendish was his hilarious wet-behind-the-ears best when he came up to me half way through the stage and asked, 'Dave mate, did we really just go up that climb at 500watts? I think there might be something wrong with me cranks. It just doesn't seem right mate.' He was promptly informed that it was right and that he better tape over his screen if he didn't want to have a nervous breakdown. Amazingly, after what felt like only a couple of minutes had past, he came scooting by me shouting in passing, 'Did it mate!' I caught up to him and looked down and saw that black electrical tape was now covering his whole screen. He's a legend. I bet they were crying with laughter in his team car when he came back and asked for that. It is a rule I tend to stick by when it comes to wattage and heart rate, out of sight out of mind, racing in the Tour de France is not the time to be a watt whore. Cav has unfortunately caught a glimpse of the horrors which take place, hopefully that black tape will remain firmly in place for the rest of the race
