Swapping Forks.

I am planning on swapping the forks on my Inbred to one of the on-one superlight forks. I want to keep my current headset. Is this a simple matter of removing the crown race from the old fork and bashing it onto the new fork. I'm reluctant to ever take my bike to a workshop as I can normally do all my own work - is this a job for a bike shop?

you simply prize the crown race off with a screwdriver (most forks a an indentation to enable you to do this) and slide it down the steerer of the new forks.0

Splendid - also I've never cut a steerer tube - can this be cut with a hacksaw?0

I've never needed to either, but if I ever do, i will!
You can get steerer tube cutters, but I guess they just guide you!0
