Compatibility of new cassette and nearly new chain

I know the accepted wisdom is to use a new chain with a new cassette as a matter of course, but I have a new XT cassette that I want to use with an SRAM PC991 chain that has done less than 100 miles.

Will it work or do I buy another new chain?

    i would use it.

i would put the normal wisdom more like this.
if your chain is that worn that you need to change it. It is likely that the cassette will need changing as well. and visa versa

Yeah, it'll be fine. The cassette will rack up it's first 'just under 100 miles' wear pretty quick, then it'll be absolutely fine.
