CRC have some bargain lights at the moment and I'm getting tempted to buy some in preparation for the long dark winter...
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=8508 only £20! will these be ok to ride trails at night with? Maybe swap out the 5 watt for another 10 watt from maplins...
Or should I go for something more like: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=8914
Any other tips/recommendations?

Don't know much about them two, but 20 quid can't all be that bad! However if you can stretch a bit more I would suggest this:

Very well made, compact battery, great run times and good charger.0 -
cheers fella - they do look the part more I must say
I thought proper night riding lights were much more expensive...0 -
Well, you can get better, lighter and brighter, but for those on a budget or starting out they are more than good enough. A good head mounted LED in conjuction works well too.0

yeah I thought a head-mounted light would help pick out the stuff that your wheel isn't pointing at...
Is it alright without though (At least to begin with...)?0 -
Sure, but the lamp is of benefit. Those 27 LED ones on ebay are excellent, as bright as the Black Diamond 1 watt luxeon which is a lot more. 6 quid, I'd get one anyway!0

can't go wrong for 6 notes
where did you see them?0 -

Lupine Nightmare - on sale at Evans now. Not cheap but the dogs bollocks. 40W equivalent and extremely well made. Long run time too.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

The Electron EHP315s are very good if you have only a budget of £50 or so.
I'd also take a look at www.evanscycles.co.uk. They have some very good deals in their lighting sale.
Lupine Nightmare Pros reduced to £209.
