hello all need some advice, picked up my fame from my LBS (had my bb threads chased and faced)has been prepared for fitment of my XTR BB and crank, just fitted it properly with the correct spacers and torqued up with my proper torque wrench from work, installed the crank and pedals, jumped on and now i have a nasty creak when i give it large!!!! the shaft of the crank went in dry i did not use grease(could this be the cause??) this crank is 30 mins old and has been round the park once.

Any ideas chaps???

Could be the BB cups not tight enough maybe? Mine did the same after my first couple of rides. Drop the cranks off and check just in case.
  • thanks andrew,i have checked the cups and all is good, whats the deal with the preload adjuster, how tight should it be i have only nipped it up just to take the play out? any tip's on setting this up,also i have noticed that the black spacing rings are not good on the drive side...on the drive side i have to spacers and one seems to be jutting out a tad by about 1mm could this be a problem?

try to use as few spacers as possible and space them evenly on each side. as for the preload just do it as tight as you can the carnnks move just as well it just gives peace of mind that there will be no play.
Ride it hard on a hardtail
