has anyone here any experiance building car trailers? im looking to put one together maybe from scratch or converting a normal trailer to carry 4 to 5 bikes. im a mechanic by trade so hopefully i have the skills. (he says!!) it will be pulled by a normal sized car so obviosly cant be huge! im just really looking for any tips or links to sites that would be usefull! oh also any advice on the legal issues would be appreciated!

cheers for any replies!

There is a company called indespention ( not sure about the spelling) in northampton. I think they might sell plans/ kits for different types of trailers. The others are pricey but they look pretty well made all galv etc.

I wouldn't of thought it'd be too much of a prob designing a bike trailer. Something like 40mm box for the main beam and axle. And then make a design you want.... how many bike are you planning on carrying on it? Indespesion(sp?) make wheel units that bolt on, and you wouldn't need it braked... I'd make a cross with the 40mm (50 if you want) and then make a frame round that with 30mm box with some uprights where you need them, and something to stop the wheels moving round.

Hmmm, actually, I may look deeper into this. I'm getting a bit fed up knocking lumps out the back of my car with a rack........
If I come up with something i'll email pm you the details if you like.....

Halfords sell small cheap trailers for around £100, just cut the sides away and mount your own supports for the bikes

Nake sure its all under 750Kg and you'll have no towing problems
Marin Mount Vision 2005. Fox RL100/RP3. Hope Pro 2/Mavic XC717/DT rev. Cinders 2.1, XTR, Lots of bling
