I currently have Spesh Taho's and I use them with SPD's M520's on the Sirrus and A520 on the Bianchi. I'm thinking of getting a pair of road shoes and I'll probably stick with what I know, Spesh BG. Would I be able to put spd cleats on the road shoes or will I need new pedals?

Check whether the soles take three-bolt cleats only, or will also accept two-bolt ones.

The top-end BG shoes are three-hole only so you can fit Look etc cleats and road SPD-SL but not MTB SPDs

The bottom-end BG shoes used to take both, e.g. 2006 shoes did but 2007 may not.

The Road Shoes usually have the 3 bolt system (for Look, SPD-SL, Time and Speedplay). You can get converters to allow you to fit cleats that use the 2 bolt system (like plain SPD).

www.specialized.com has more info on what each shoe can take.

I prefer the MTB version of the Spesh shoes (BG Pro Carbon MTB for me) as I use SPDs and the extra bits of plastic on the bottom protect the cleats and allow you walk reasonable distances in comfort, and without needing cleat covers.

GB, where can you get such converters please? I saw a pair of SIDI ones (which allowed two-bolt SPD cleats to go on three-bolt Look shoes) on eBay, but the auction had ended and I haven't been able to find them for sale anywhere else. Ta!
