Avatars

Ok,

Due to some confusion with avatars and such, I have switched them so you have to upload them to our site, that way we can monitor the dimensions so they don't break the layout as quite a lot have. Here are the limits so you can adjust your images accordingly.

Dimensions = 80 x 80 pixels maximum
File Size = 5kb

If you are having trouble resizing your images or have no means in which to do this download a nice free piece of image editing software called GimP which you can download from This lovely place!

Yes that should be more than enough for a static gif or jpg or those dimensions. :)

    I vote for 150x150, 8 or 10k max. 5Kb is TINY!

    150x150 is far too big.

5KB is more than enough id you know anything about image compression.

Our limits for non flash static banners is 15KB with dimensions of 728x90 on all our sites so 80x80 should be easy!

    80X80 it is then.

but i have to ask why square?

why not 120 X 80 so as to fit in with most photo formats?

    eg. 6" X 4"

i just find the Square thing hard to understand.

you dont have to use exactly 80x80, u can use 80x60 or 2x80 or 3x4 for example!
    80x80 is just the maximum!

My AV was 80x80, but because it was animated, it was way over 5mb. So tell me... how do you compress an animated gif? ;)

I have increased the size to 10KB just to make sure we can fit avatars in. But there wont be any chance of making it higher otherwise we start to affect loads times for those on somewhat slower connections. :)

Ah, that's where my avatar went. Might be an idea to put a warning of that on the profile page so we don't think it's broken, ta :)

So now you are forcing the avatar to be 80X80? i will re size again.

It shouldn't be forcing it but for some reason it is.

I will look into it and see if i can fix it :S
