Hi all
Just emigrated from the UK and sold my old Marin as I can get new one here (Israel) in dollars for almost my second hand sale price (good old exchange rate and fact that dollar prices almost = pound prices, rip-off-Britain again).

Anyway love Marins so sticking with them, was considering the Nail Trail but they don't import it here so going for the Hawk Hill. Problem is its a different frame (7005) from the UK (6061) (still looks great tho) I just wondered if there was a massive difference.

I realise that the 6061 will be lighter but I am not that bothered as I usually do pretty light trails, do you think I need to upgrade some other parts immediately or just wait till they break and upgrade then ?

Very basically, 6061 is easier to form, 7005 is stronger. Very basically! You may not notice any difference at all, but it can be seen the 6061 frame features more manipulation and hydroforming. Both materials can make great frames.

What concerns me most is the spec. Undamped cheap for, 8spd, and single piston hydro brakes are poor at this price compared to its rivals.

Doubt there ismuch difference between the two. The 6061 frame looks a hell of alot nicer though due to the swooping top tube. I Upgraded the Brakes straight away as they felt awful to use. The forks will last a little while but you could upgrade them in the future aswell and put something else on.

The price I paid was the shekel equilalent of 300 quid so got some spare cash on the catologue price.....so brakes are to befirst upgrade ? Followed by forks ? (I can always stick the chep stuff on my missis bike :D ) Anything else gotta go ?

Funnily enough I preferred the non-sloping top tube just wondered why they do different frame in UK/US, maybe to justify the 400 dollar catalogue price difference ?

Don't they even sell the Palisades Trail? The Hawk's hill specs are just awfull... The rest of the range is ok or the money though.

Yeh they did, just the colour was minging and it was almost double the price so as I have spare cash for upgrades and little knowledge of bike parts...what shall I upgrade and what to ? (the reason for this thread really)

Just thinking, missis got one of these:

anything interchangeable that is worth nicking off her bike cos she never uses it ?

Oh, so you have the American verion? They are totally different bikes, even if they share name! It seems fine actually, at least this one has deore stuff and disc brakes! I still prefer the hyperlight range though! (Maybe I am biased though  )
