Clanking sounds when pedalling
Hi there,
First post, so be gentle
When I go for a 10mile off-road/on-road cross-country run, I find that after about 6 miles of steady going, a clanking starts to emanate from the pedal-area. It is in time with the pedalling, but disappears if I put more effort into the pedals. I've read that clanking sounds can come from anywhere on a MTB, and that the frame 'focusses' the sound around the BB.
Diagnostics suggest that the BB is OK (i.e. doesn't move when rocked backwards and forwards). I find it odd that it only appears after a few miles. It isn't driving me crazy yet, but it is embarrassing riding past pedestrians while making clanking sounds (the bike, that is). There is slight play in the back wheel hub. Could this be the problem?
Any suggestions?
Thx.

Get that rear hub looked at.
Cranks firmly attached to BB?
Saddle/seatpost/seatpin often cause these types of problems, especially if it goes away under power as this sometimes means a change in seat position, or even standing up on the pedals.
Someone will be along to post the link to the "annoying clicking" webpage that has some useful advice.--

Hi Greenbank,
Thanks for the guidance. I decided to start slowly from the beginning and remove and reattach the pedals [requiring purchase of a wrench that would fit] ... it turned out that the right pedal was slightly wobbly on its bearings. Replaced both with DMR V8's and life is all quiet again...no more clanking, nor more embarrassment, alot more confidence.
