Folks,
i've a new frame and need to purchase a new front mech as the clamp has to be bigger .
It's a Shimano M738 i've got at the moment and i'm running 7 speed.Can anyone suggest a replacement?

An 8 speed one would work best, but a 9 speed one would probably cause no problems except a little rub in certain combos (they are narrower). Alivio or Deore for less than 20 quid.0

I was advised not to go for an M761,good advice or rubbish?0

The XT is a veratile mech, dual pull and with frame shims. But as above, as they are alightly narrower, and your 7spd chain wider (incidently the same as an 8spd) chain there could be rubbing issues. I have rarely found it to be too much of a problem.0
