Well apart from the last 20k, average speed was 35k I think.............seems like they took it easy.

the great cancellara went back to the comissonaires vehicle to explain that after all the crashes yesterday they were to take it easy today.....all this riding clean (hopefully!) is making them go soft???

what a finish by cancellara, great, great, great!

With a bit of luck,we are returning to a good few years ago, when the pro's had the occasional 'day off' & just wound up the speed in the last hour.
With behaviour like that, you could almost imagine them being clean!

Yeah but it was helluva boring stage to watch, though. If that's clean riding, bring back the dope! They were so slow I ended up missing 10 minutes of Neighbours!

I am sure I saw a few with Brooks saddles and saddlebags  (sounds like me!)

It was the longest stage of the Tour, following on from a few hectic days racing, abit of travel across the sea, and some fairly spectacular crashes involving some big name riders and the lumpy bits are earlier on than usual - all added to a bit of day of "leisure" methinks with a few riders maybe thinking at the rate the crashes were happening that they would not maybe make it to the mountains let alone Paris.

At about the 150 km mark, they were barely at 31 km/h.
  • The stage was 236.5KM! Not a day off! Thats what I do in a week!!!

I know it was slow maybe it was like a dress down Friday on a Tuesday! Easy Rasclah!

I think it was a head wind too, for what it's worth.
  • It's much better to have the racing like that minus the doping.

Really? Think about it, it finally ended up being a non predictable finish, and probably one of the most exciting for a long time.

    More of these stages!

Yeh, the finish was good, great tactics by Cancellara & Co.. Though I felt sorry for the 4 up front who were caught, even if it happens so often.

In interviews afterwards, several riders seemed very unhappy with the stage length and lack of challenge along its route, and one rider inferred the slow pace was a subconscious protest of sorts against stages like this - i.e., he didn't mention any agreement between teams and riders and the organisers involving Cancellara.

One interviewed said the best bit was in the village where they dawdled because one rider came from the village. The rider was let out front and eventually stopped to meet with friends or family. To allow him to do this, the peloton got even slower, which gave some riders the chance to chat with locals and and eat the cake the locals offered (legitimate because they were in the feeding zone limits).

I was only kidding. It was a tedious stage, but the finish made up for it.
