Avid three caliper alignment

hi, i just bought some juicy threes from crc and they have the instructions etc, but they dont seam to help much. i am useualy a pretty good bike mechanic (well from what my mates tell me) but i have never aligned an out of the box condition caliper before. i battaled with this for an houre and a half and still cant get the brack spot on. any tips? thanks

    Ask the silly question first: have you read the instructions?

    slacken caliper to adaptor bolts apply pressure on brake. rotate wheel 360 degrees, tighten bolts. release lever. check clearance. Use.

    yea that worked much better. still not quite right but im sure itll get better with use :D chears mate :P

    thats the tri align thing. squeeze the brake 5/6 times then hold it and tighten up the calliper bolts. you may have to do it several times to get it right though.
    I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

    me juicy 3 still takes me over 30 mins to sort out everytime i remove the wheel! they are bitches!

    today i whipped the wheels off my bike to fit in the the car and now cannot put the wheels on because there is not enough clearance for the disk to fit in. i take it this is the trick to fix it.

    no just push you pads back in. you will have "pulled" the levers some how while the wheels were out.

  • Don't know if you've resolved this problem yet but when i fitted my front Juicy 5 i needed to use spacers as well as the built in adjustment, halfords sell a pack of lillte washers in different widths for this task at £2 for the pack, make sure you use the same washers on each bolt and line line the disk up by eye, worked better for me :wink:
