I'm looking for a hardtail around £1K and am considering the above.
I can't find a Genesis around where I live (Camberley, Surrey) - has anyone out there got one I could at least look at?
Any views on potential selection?
I do a mix of trails and, more recently, singletrack. I'm considering going in for the Gorrick XC races (I can get round the courses - probably not very fast but hey, I'm 48 you know

I'd avoid the P7 for XC races, its more of a hardcore hardtail, with a heavy frame and components plus a very relaxed ride position. Seems you may prefer steel? Lso take a look at the rock Lobster bikes at Merlin.0

Thanks for the reply Supersonic. I will bear your comments on weight in mind on the Orange.
I like the idea of the Genesis as it is a little different - trouble is they seem to be conspicuous by their absence round here.

Its had some very good reviews, and doesnt have many dealers so I am not suprised you havent seen too many. Both models sport good frames, Reynolds tubes, the top end one being 853.
If its a racy hardtail you are after, the GT Zaskar is worth looking at. The Pro only weighs 24lbs, and the 2006 model is on sale in many places. Great frame, full XT and RS rebas.0 -
Indeed I was considering the 2006 GT Zaskar - I currently ride a GT Avalanche 1.0 with v-brakes and want to upgrade.
It looks like I may have to go to London to see a Genesis. The manufacturer says they were taken a little by surprise at how well they sold and so stocks are low.
