Cycle Computers

I need a new computer for my bike. As well as the usual functions, I'd ideally like it to be wireless and show cadence, which immediately puts me in the top bracket of computers, e.g. Cateye CD300DW or the new V2C.

Does anyone have any experience of these computers? I only ride alone so interference with other computers is not likely to be an issue, but does it give accurate information or is it too much too ask of a computer to be wireless for speed and cadence?

Alternatively, has anyone bought a computer with cadence and found they just stop using the information after a while, so I may as well just get a wireless one which just does speed (e.g. the Strada)?

Thanks for any advice or other recommendations

Edward

I use a CD300DW on one of my bikes. I have no regrets about the functions but found that it went from a Mile to Km readout when I changed the batteries and I couldn't get it to change back - until I took the batteries out and refitted them again - bizarre.

    Also consider the Polar CS200cad.

There is alot of us on here that rate it highly. A nice unit.

How about the Garmin edge 305 which you can get with cadence and/or a heart rate monitor.

have a look at the blackburn delphi range, the cadence is wired but everything else is wireless so you have a wire running to the cranks but nowhere else

The Garmin is definitely way out of my price range. As for the Polar I'm not bothered about heart rate, there's some information which you just don't need to know!

    Thanks

I don't know if my perspective is of any benefit edwardvarla but I thought I'd try to contribute.

I've just got a Strada Wireless today and I found that on a road ride it's faultless. I did consider the Strada Cadence (£25 at Merlin) but didn't think I'd use the cadence feature much.

Initially I did consider a Garmin Edge/V3/V2C etc but to be honest the Strada's 8 features are more than enough for me. One aspect of having a new gizmo on my bars was that I found it somewhat distracting having 'Oooo 35.6mph' type moments.

    Good Luck

Thanks Red Panda, that's definitely of benefit. If I don't go for a computer with cadence, the Strada Wireless would be a hot favourite.

    Cheers

    You're very welcome Edward

I should add that the Strada's feature navigation works very well. It seems to be built well too. It hasn't got a backlight but I don't find that a problem. The standard wired Strada is £19.95 with free p&p from Merlin at the moment and on reflection I think I perhaps should have gone for that rather than spend more on the wireless version.

I'd certainly be interested to see what you choose in the end Edward, do let us know how you get along.
