I've been hanging on for a Claud Butler Cape Wrath D27 hardtail, but it's been three weeks here in the UK with none in stock anywhere and delivery has just slipped another two weeks

So I've been offered a Diamondback Response Sport for the same money, the spec looks good but this bike hasn't had much coverage so I don't know if it's a duffer or a winner.

It looks good but I don't know enough about the specs of things to be sure.

Does anyone know if this bike is any good for the price (less than) £450

  • Hey pete,

JeJames Cycles have good stock of 16" & 22".

What size are you after mate?

I think you'd be safe with either or! There both similar spec'd, same disc brakes etc etc!

I'd go on cosmetics on this one mate.......or availability! hehe

I mean the original guy! All new bikes should be tried out for basic sizing and handling.
  • Yeh i agree with you there. But the specs of these bike are too close for them to be that different! Hence my recommendation! ;-)

You dont see that many DBs tested, but I agree on paper it looks very good! Just have to make sure the frame isn't a dud, and has silly geometry or summat.
  • Yeh yeh, i think id stretch my budget a tiny little more and take a look at the Giant XtC 3.5. Great spec, great ride, great prices to be found online!

Thanks guys, I particularly liked the D27 as I've tried the frame and it seemed to fit well, I'm 5'6 (and a half) with little legs (no laughing at the back!! LOL). That means I'm an 18" frame in the D27, I've "been told" the Diamondback in a 18" is a similar size frame and from the pics I can believe it?

It may well be the same height, but the top tube length, which is just as important, could be different. This will change the riding position you had on the D27 hence why you need to try it.

  • Hi,

I'm going to buy my first bike and have readthe various threads on the recomendations. I've been offered a DB Response Sport for £350 which seems to be a good price and compared to others seems good value for money.

Any tips for me when I check it out and is there anything better for a similar price ?
