Their Deorext/Sputnik combo seems cracking value. Just wondered if anyone had bought any and what their experience was. Cheers.

    On cue or what?
Set on my wife's bike have been absolutely trouble free from new. I have some Campag ones on my race bike that I bought second hand from someone that had used them for an end to end mission. I have raced them all season without any trouble at all. My LBS in Hereford was very impressed by the wheel build too.

Deore hubs are a good call because they are well sealed. Our wheels are all built onto Rigida Chrina's, not Sputniks though.

We have ordered a bunch of parts from them. They sent the wrong things once, but fixed it for us. I will order from them again. Settle Cycles are also quite good for touring bits.

Beware - Settle Cycles is not the outfit that was based in Settle. It is now a warehouse operation based in Market Weighton.

Re Settle Cycles - interesting. Found no suitable wheels there so left. Does the warehouse in wherever mean the business has been bought? Very odd!

    Hmm, must have changed. Pity.

Touring wheels are reviewed in this months C+ (August 2007, pg 129).

Spa Cycles get a very good write up..."it's hard to beat any of Spa Cycles' offerings".

Have a look at the mag for specific hub/rim combinations.
  • I've had two sets of wheels and a front Dynohub from Spa cycles and the build quality is spot on. They are all still true after several thousand miles of commuting and touring. Can't comment on the combination mentioned as I got Alesa Endeavours with XT but the way that the staff there talk through what you want it for and what is best gives a lot of confidence. You won't go wrong buying from them.

I think the Rigida Sputnik is a different coloured Alesa Endeavour. Rigida bought Alesa. A bunch of ex-Alesa guys went and founded EXXAL after that, but their rims are hard to come by over here.

Acorn_user; the Sputnik is certainly similar to the Endeavour, but having built wheels with both, I reckon the Sputnik is slightly wider and heavier.
