Road bike for £600 ? Focus, Boardman

Friend has asked me to recommend an entry level bike for £600ish. From the quick look I've had, the best bets seem to be Focus Variado with 105 and R550 wheels, and the Boardman with 105 Ritchey comp (although I'm a bit worried about recommending such a new bike)

Anything rival the Focus ? He's looked at spech allez sport but the wheels look rubbish to me.

    Nothing wrong with an Allez Sport.

    Wheels are fine.

    Not sure which Allez Sport you're referring to but I've had a 2006 Allez Sport Double for coming up on 12 months now.

    Mine came with Alexrims AT400s and I've had the rear trued twice and if it wasn't for the fact I was looking for replacement wheels I'd be having the rear trued for a third time (I'm not a big lad... 10.5 st.)

    That aside, the bike has been a joy to ride and I'm happy with it. But at the time I bought it they (Edinburgh Bike Co-op) had a CAAD 5 Cannondale for same/similar money and I still wonder now and again if that would've been money better spent. :?
