Hi, I recently borrowed a set of road tyres off my dads bike to do a charity cycle ride, and was amazed at how much weight my bike lost with these 1.95 tyres on compared to my 2.4 front and 2.5 rear freeride tyres, I dont particularly want to go any sizes smaller because I like the look of this size tyres on my bike, I was just wondering if there was such things as Lightweight Freeride tyres.
Oh and currently I have a Panaracer FR 2.4 on the front and a Kenda Nevegal 2.5 on the rear if people were wondering!
thanks!

I would take some slime etc. with me on rides if needs be. If i had lighter tyres atleast id be able to fix punctures! i cant get the freeride tyres off unless I use a screwdriver ( Im going to invest in the tyre levers from this months MBUK) so no it wouldnt really matter if I had more punctures

I dont know the current weight, but to compare them to something, id say they weighed the same as a shoe each, minus the tubes which is about the same weight again maybe slightly lighter( sorry for the stupid comparison but i dont own a weighing scales)

Nick it's no flaming wonder you have so many posts! He wants answers not confirmation! :)

I wouldn't change the tyres to be honest because you will end up getting pinch flats etc etc. If you do want to though I would look at Maxxis High Rollers (single ply) if they are any lighter than your current setup (check the website weightweenies for this information) or the Panaracer Rampage 2.3 which is a decent light big tyre.

and if he does not know the weight of his tyres then how does he know what tyres will be lighter?

say he was running a big betty 2.4 and wanted ligher and some one said go for a highroller at 2.25. should he?

unfortunatly most of the tyre info on weenies is for XC tyres. which does not help him much.

I run Syncros's kevlar beaded BHT 2.5" tires on my Mythic Chaparral, and its made the bike feel super nimble for general riding about

the tires weigh in at 800gm each which is very light for a 2,5" you need to keep them inflated around 40psi to avoid pinch flats, but their soft compound and tread pattern means lots of grip for off-road adventures

I would not recommend them for overseas riding, i am putting my Syncros BHT wire bead / dual ply 2.5" back on for Whistler, these weigh 1200gm each as a comparison

    quick bit of googling...

    big betty's are 940g each, panaracer FR 2.4 - 860g, kenda nevegal 2.5 - 1140g

high roller 2.35 single ply are 740g, panaracer rampage 720g,

so swapping to a pair of the tyres in the second line will save over 1lb in weight

the other thing to look into is using a systems like "Stans No-Tubes" this gives a serious weight saving and pretty much eliminates punctures

I'm running a High roller up front and a Lopes bling bling on the rear. Both 2.35 wide, 60a and single ply. With Hutchinson green dh tubes. Haven't punctured in 2 years with the single ply tyres.

Its a fast rolling setup, but still corners well (Bling Bling has side knobbles off a High roller). Copes in the damp, but not the best on wet roots.
