My preference would be Bergen rather than Oslo. By flying into Bergen you have two great routes with wonderful scenery. Bergen to Voss via the Eksingadalen route and Voss to Haugastøl via the Rallarvegen. And you can use the train to get back to Bergen

There is an account of the two routes that we did back in 2002 on our site here.

I would also go for Bergen cos it's closer to fjords and glaciers and other good things. Plus Oslo's expensive. And I think I read somewhere the road from the airport is bad news for cycling and you have to get a train? Or something?

I flew to Haugesund from Stansted with Ryanair

    Tourist in Bergen approaches local:

"Does it ever stop raining in Bergen?"

    "I don't know - I'm only 18 years old"

courtesy of the Rough Guide. It was fine when I was there, why dont you check the long range weather forecast when you have to decide?

    My landlord in Bergen
" I don't know why people complain about the rain here. It rains 200 days per year in Bergen, every year, that's what it does, so why do people complain?"

It gets drier as you go in land from Bergen, but not by much. Then again the fjords are worth it, Hardanger is fantastic and well worth the effort.
