Mountain Bike Beginner

Hi
I hope you can help me. I am after some advice/suggestions as to which mountain bike I should buy. I am a beginner to mountain biking and want to spend around 200 to 300 pounds.
I have heard good reports about the Decathlon Rockrider 5.2 and also about the Carrera Vulcan from Halfords. Anyone know if any of these are decent for a beginner???

the rockhopper is currently reduced on dales cycles from £550 to £399. quite a bargain imo.0
