Bottom bracket dust cap ?

hi

Marin Nail Trail 2005.

I think the bottom bracket bearings may have got water in again (had them replaced about a year ago...combination of heavy use & heavy weather).

Now a horrible hollow clunking sound when pedalling, especially against resistance.

I don't jet wash.

Mine have never had any sort of "cap" over the outside (around the crank arm) - although I see some types do.

I would imagine that the dust cap might help to keep the worst of the water out - but my local bike mechanic says they wouldn't do much good.

What's the story with these ?

thanks

what are the current cranks and bb? most water enters that frame via other routes than the bb.

what are these caps you are on about? pics?

I think this sort of thing (soory, don't know all the technical terms for the bike anatomy around that area) ....

Maybe I could ask him to fit a better quality one (does this necessarily equate to better weather resistance ?)

I've just spoken to the mechanic - he thinks the one he fitted before was "splined", didn't catch the manufacturer's name.

every so often after cleaning your bike hold it upside down for a while with the seat out aloowing the water to drain out

swayzak that is just the dust cover on the "new" external bearing hubs.

what bb set up do you have now?
